Knights Win SSAC Tournament in Dominant Fashion

Decatur, AL - The Knights were in the SSAC Championship game on Saturday, May 6th as they were in the driver's seat, having won all three previous games. The Knights would have to play the winner of Stillman and Mobile with the Knights only needing one victory while the other team would need two. The Knights would play the Rams of Mobile again and would be the visiting team as the Rams were the higher seeded team. The Knights wouldn't wait to get the scoring started as they would score one run in the first inning on an Alexis Cosgrove solo home run. The Knights would maintain their 1-0 thanks in part to the pitching and defense as Emma Raulerson would save a run by making a catch that would rob a home run and send her crashing through the fence. The lead would remain 1-0 until the fourth inning when the Knights would run away with the game. The Knights would start the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles from Summer Lawrence and Cosgrove. A sacrifice bunt from Christina Zeppa would move Cosgrove to third and a Raulerson single would score the run. A single by Lauren Heath and an error by the Rams would load the bases for the Knights and Logan Blizzard would knock in a run on a fielder's choice. The Knights would get RBI singles from Addison Renfroe and Madisyn Riggins to extend the lead and a two-run single from Lawrence would give the Knights a big enough lead to force the mercy rule. The Knights would not stop at eight as two more runs would score on errors by the Rams and an RBI single from Zeppa and the Knights would hold a comfortable 11-0 lead. The Knights pitching would continue to stand strong as the Rams would not be able to score any runs and the Knights would win the game 11-0. Riggins and Eddins would combine to pitch the two hit shutout for the Knights. The Knights win their first SSAC Championship in history and earn the automatic spot in the NAIA Opening Round. The Knights will await their seeding for the tournament which will take place May 15-17.
