HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Knights were back on the road as they headed to Hardeeville, South Carolina on Saturday to take part in the 18th Annual Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by USC-Beaufort. The Knights had three weeks of rest since their last meet and were hoping fresh legs could result in faster times.
The Knights had harsh conditions to deal with as rain played a factor in the race. Newcomer
Makenzie Andrews was the first Knight to cross the finish line in 47th place in a time of 20:55.1, the third best time in school history over the five kilometer distance.
Irina Furtuna came across next for the Knights in 81st place with a time of 23:30.8, missing a top-25 all-time spot by seven seconds.
Chloe Key (26:07.6) and Ainhoa Fernandez del Moral (26:20.1) were the next Knights to finish in 93rd and 94th places and another newcomer
Melea Morgan (27:21.5) rounding out the top five for the Knights.
Yana Prihach (29:55.9) and
Tamanna Takoria (30:26.8) finished off the scoring for the Knights. As a team, the Knights finished with 299 points, good for 11th place out of 13 teams, beating out Brewton-Parker Christian University and Savannah State University.
The Knights will have another week off before heading to Milledgeville, Georgia with the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday, October 25th. Race starts at 9 AM EST.
