MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Knights hit the road on Friday as they headed to Mount Olive, North Carolina to play in the Pickle Classic. The Knights were set to take on the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive. The Knights were riding a high after defeating Valdosta State on a buzzer beater and had a three-game winning streak as well.
The first half opened with the Trojans hitting the first shot of the game but the Knights were able to tie the game at 12-12. The first half was highly contested as both teams were able to knock down their shots and the lead changed hands multiple times. The Trojans looked to pull away late in the first half as they held a five-point lead but the Knights were able to fight back and had a 57-53 lead going into the halftime break. The Knights continued to hold their lead and increased it to seven points with 15:36 remaining in the game. The Trojans were able to get on a run and cut the lead down to three points but the Knights started to get back in their rhythm as they pushed their lead to 10 points with 6:53 remaining in the game. The Trojans put together another comeback attempt and the Knights were not ready for it as the Knights found themselves down 88-87 with 2:43 remaining. The Knights were unable to regain the lead as they lost 94-91.
Krishen Atwal led the Knights with 20 points as
OT Delancy added 18 points,
Greg Jones had 13 points, and
Milique Smith had 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Knights will be back on the court on Saturday, November 22
nd as they play their second game of the Pickle Classic against Barton College. Tip off is scheduled for 5 PM EST.
