COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back in action on Tuesday as they welcomed the Saints of Flagler College to Morris Gym for another Peach Belt Conference matchup. The Knights were searching for their first conference win of the season and the Saints were riding a three-game conference winning streak.
The game started off with both teams struggling from the field as neither team was able to make a basket until the Knights hit their first after two minutes of play. The game was close early on before an eight point run gave the Knights a 12-4 lead. The Saints cut the lead down to four points but the Knights offense came on and the lead grew to ten points with 4:09 remaining in the half. A six point run by the Saints cut the lead back down to four points and the Knights hit two late free throws to head into the halftime break with a 28-22 lead.
The Knights had to hold off the Saints at the start of the second half as the lead shrank to four points again but the defense got back on track while the offense started to pick up with an eight point run to take a 12 points lead with 14:04 remaining in the game. After the Saints got within nine points, the Knights reached their largest lead of the game with 11:30 left in the game, leading by 15 points. The Saints made one final run in the second half and cut the lead down to six points but the Knights responded and pushed the back out to 15 points before they won the game 62-51.
Joshua Robertson and
OT Delancy led the Knights, each scoring 13 points, while
Milique Smith led with 10 rebounds and two blocks.
The Knights will have a long break to recover as they rest for the holidays before returning on January 3rd as they host the Jaguars of Augusta University. Tip off is scheduled for 3:30 PM EST.
