AMERICUS, Ga. - The Knights hit the road on Wednesday as they headed to Americus, Georgia to take on the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern. The Knights were still undefeated on the season with a 5-0 record and headed into Peach Belt Conference play ready to make a statement.
The Knights and Hurricanes started out in a close game with both teams swapping the lead. The Knights grabbed the lead with 4:12 remaining in the quarter and did not relinquish it as they held a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Knights extended their lead in the second quarter to 10 points but the Hurricanes were able to shrink the lead to two points. The lead for the Knights got down to one point but they ended the quarter with a six point run as they went into halftime up 40-33. The lead hit nine points in the third quarter but the Hurricanes sustained another run and were able to take the lead from the Knights with 3:19 remaining in the third quarter. The Knights battled back late in the quarter and had a 60-56 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The shooting for the Knights went on a cold spell as they did not score in the first 6:47 of the quarter and the Hurricanes had a 10 point lead. The Knight fought to cut the lead down to six points but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Knights lost 77-67.
Mauryah Jones led the Knights with 19 points off the bench and
Ellie Southards added 10 points.
Kennedi Hawkins had another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, her third double-double of the season.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, December 6th as they host the Pacers of USC-Aiken. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 PM EST.
