Softball Sweeps Hawks

ROME, Ga. - The Knights headed out on the road on Tuesday, February 10th as they went north to Rome, Georgia to take on the Hawks of Shorter University. The Knights had lost their last three games while the Hawks had won their previous game.

Game One

The Knights got on the board in the first inning after a walk and wild pitch scored Madison Cosgrove to put the Knights up 1-0. The Knights added another run in the second inning after scoring on an error. The Hawks would score a run in the second inning and another in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2. The game came down to the sixth inning when the Knights got the lead back on an RBI double by Torrey Cummings that ended up being the game winner as the Knights won 3-2

Notable Performances

Riley Haley pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters.

Game Two

The second game of the day provided more offense for the Knights as they grabbed the lead in the first inning on a double steal that gave them a 1-0 lead. The Knights put the pressure on the Hawks in the second inning with a bases loaded walk and two-run doubles by Torrey Cummings and Mel Bullock to go up 6-0 after two innings of play. The Knights added on another four runs in the fourth inning with an RBI double by Mel Bullock, an RBI single by Grace Avery, and a two-run home run by Jenna Kirkland to take a 10-0 lead. The Hawks tried to play out of the mercy rule as they scored two runs in the fifth inning but the Knights held on for the 10-2 mercy rule win.

Notable Performances

Madison Cosgrove and Mel Bullock each went 2-for-2 at the plate while Nora Mack went 2-for-3.

What's Up Next

The Knights will head to Greenwood, South Carolina to play in the Brianna Surrento Kickoff Classic, hosted by Lander University, as they take on the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College and the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM EST.
